a panorama of great charm
The family is the soul of the evolution of the Castle from a historic inn to a Charme Hotel & Panoramic Restaurant. Since 1987 Albino Balloch and Franca with their children have taken care of the details of the hospitality and have renovated the ancient Fogolar, the heart of Friulian kitchen, in a contemporary way. The restaurant was born, in fact, around the historic circular fireplace characteristic of every house in Friuli, but transformed into the heart of a journey into the flavors of culinary and enological art that ranges from the Lombard origin of the city of Cividale, a Unesco world heritage site, to the Friulian tradition and the valleys of the Natisone river that flows in the center of the town, together with the fruits of its lagoon and the surrounding mountains.
The Fogolar room, characterized by the exposed brick walls of the ancient manor, extends into the large outdoor terrace under the crenellated tower, famous for its Sundial. The external space, surrounded by flora, is accessed through the four ancient doors, once historic passages of the Jesuit friars to reach the cells of the monastery. The modern restaurant terrace is also equipped with outdoor sofas, a relaxation area, and a modern mobile covered structure to guarantee guests the best comfort during all seasons.
The Castle also offers a panoramic room with a breathtaking 360 degree view from the center of Cividale to the plain surrounded by the Alpine mountains and the "small room of the Fortino". This last faces the historical center, which takes its name from the original road sign, “Road del Fortino”, which led to the Castle, still present together with an ancient water font made in pink marble, from the original Jesuit chapel.
